Saber EEPROM
I have 2 sabers that after trying to program gave error 0 81. I looked it up and it said that the EEPROM is shot. Is this an easy fix/ where can i another EEPROM?
Thanks
Thanks

Did the radios work before you programmed them? Try to force the original codeplugs back into them.
This usually isnt a fatal error, I have always been able to bring them back.

Re: Saber EEPROM
0 81 is an easy fix.. Build a new codeplug that matches what radio you have. It may be because the computer you are using is too fast or your running the software in a DOS box not true DOS.

Re: Saber EEPROM
The radios did work before i tried to program them. I have tried building a new codeplug and putting it back in but didn't help. I am using a DOS box so i will try again in DOS. Thanks for the help. I hope it works

Re: Saber EEPROM
I tried putting the codeplug back in and the radio now gives ERR 0 C1

Re: Saber EEPROM
try a new codeplug in dos
Re: Saber EEPROM
Also, what is the model # of the radio? What is the software version? How fast is your computer (older versions of saber software require pure DOS at 25MHz or less)? Are your frequencies within the bandsplit of the radio?

Re: Saber EEPROM
The model # is H44SAG7139CN. Using RSS 7.01. And I'm using a windows 98, not sure how to find how fast it is. And I tried opening it in pure DOS but the computer aborted

Re: Saber EEPROM
You can NOT program a standard Saber using the so-called DOS that appears when you're running any version of Windows. You must use DOS 6.22 and boot the computer from DOS.
If your computer is running at anything less than 75 mHz it should work but in general it's
better to keep it at 25 mHz if you can.

Re: Saber EEPROM
That answers that... As Tom said .. It has to be a DOS. I had a pentium I with windows 95 that I ran with DOS and that worked ok. Even that was pushing it.

I guess I'll have to get an older computer to be able to my Sabers. Thanks guys

Re: Saber EEPROM
I finally got the program to work in DOS and i feed the codeplug back into the radio. But now it will be silent for 5-10 seconds then squelch at full volume. And when I key up It emits a tone. Anyone what's wrong w/ it now? Thanks

Re: Saber EEPROM
What is the codeplug your using for the model #? It sounds like the VCO is out of lock and the squech setting is set too low.
Re: Saber EEPROM
Read the radio and compare it to what the RSS says it is when read and what the radio really is.
I'd bet that it comes back as a different model or a different band saber.
I've seen this a number of times when the CPG gets corrupted, I had one corrupted VHF saber II that when read with RSS thought it was a UHF model and it blew squelch wide open until I made up a new codeplug for the exact model that it really was and programmed it in and then read it back out and repeated this process a couple of times until the model # matched.

Re: Saber EEPROM
He is sending it to me to take a look at... It is a UHF.. I think it may be a low split that has been played with.. I will let everyone know what I find.
