P110 will not read ?

Post by SD70MAC »

I was brought a P110 VHF that will not read with GP300/P110 v7 or P110 V8.00.04. The radio has no tag on the back and the channel knob will rotate to 16ch. It gives me an error 21 Radio not supported. If its been hacked do you have to have hacked RSS to read it ? We had some of these a long time ago ,true 6ch P110 and a friend had one that was 16ch and I don't remember having any issues with any of them.

P110/Gp300 took an unusual RSS route. Originally the two were covered by the same version, later the P110 was spun off seperately
and the GP300 was combined with GP350. Besides having the normal error when the RSS is much older than the radio the reverse is also true. I have some 1993 vintage GP300 radios that will not work with the latest GP300/GP350, but need the older RSS, go figure.
Same would also happen if you were dealing with GP88 chassis.

Hello:
I see you tried the below version but:
Radio South is correct.
Motorola did do some wierd butt things with the P110 / GP300 / GP350 rss.
In march of 1996 there was a P110 rss only and its version was R08.00.04
Id say you ran into one of those P110 portables that require that version and that one only.

If you read his post, he's already tried the last GP300/P110 combo RSS, and also the latest standalone P110-only RSS. I've never seen a 'legit' P110 that couldn't be read by one or the other.

I'd say likely the radio started out life as a 6-channel & was subsequently hacked to 16. There are various ways to do this as per the information on Batlabs, and some of them do render the radio useless to 'regular' RSS. I suppose there's also a slim chance it's some sort of re-cased overseas version, like a 5/6-tone GP300 or similar. Hard to say, since it can't be read.

It may require 'toolkit' to be recovered to a useable state.

Yes, I read what you said, fully & completely. He already tried 8.00.04 is what I was saying.

I agree, most likely your radio has been modified to add channels. The other option is that somebody use modified RSS to change the model # so no one else could read the radio (see http://www.batlabs.com/hoffisgp2.html and the comments about electronic lock)

I have also tried the 5 tone p110/gp300 and no read on that RSS. I never got the hang of the hex editing,so if its been done the Hoffis method I cannot do anything with it. I will return it to its owner.

dumb old question but you are using real dos and not a dos window right? if so then i agree, find the model number on the back of the radio and see if it really started out as a 16ch. if not then the most common hack was to alter the cps and make every radion capable of 16ch.

HLA,

I never use a DOS window, I got an OLD 50mhz laptop for these(true DOS). The radio has no tags on it so it must have been hacked.

no tags don't always mean hacked but this is one of the most popular radios to alter so you just have to figure out what somebody else did to it. do you have a frequency counter to see what band it's transmitting on? you can alter your cps to force a codeplug into the radio?
