help changing trunking radio to conventional
I would like to change a trunking spectra to conventional mode only. Model T45ZXA5JC9AK
I was using instructions on this site> http://www.repeater-builder.com/motorol ... opics.html
and was successful to some extent on deleting trunking modes.
The problem is I can't seem to access the left side of the screen in radio wide to reduce the system and subfleet to
1 and increase the conventional modes. I know they mention B5 radios might not be able to do this.
Anyone know how to change the codeplug to conventional only?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
So no one knows how I can get a conventional codeplug into this radio? Or any way I can increase the amount of conventional modes?
Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Guess the first question is which flavor of the RSS do you have?
Big hint here is you have to use the edit modes key (F* I think). I don't have the software on this
computer, but will try and remember to start it up later today and see if I can make a step by step to
get you where you want to be. One of the steps when you get into the edit mode it to set the type
to a conventional channel and not a trunking channel. You also have to select the insert mode.
You need to create a new mode and then go to that mode and edit it for the conventional channels. Then
you can set the home mode to go there to that mode when you power up the radio. This is all done
in different areas of the software. Need to learn your way around it.
Hint, you have to have at least one trunking mode in the radio. So you just insert all the conventional modes
in front of the trunking mode.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
I recall doing this *once* and it was a challenge. It did not happen the way I thought it would happen. I had to go to multiple screens to achieve the goal. As Jim pointed out, you will have to keep at least one trunking system.
Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
The version of regular spectra rss I have is R06:00:05
The thing is that I need more than 10 conventional channels.
Look at the link I provided on my first post. I followed his instructions to the letter.
http://www.repeater-builder.com/motorol ... opics.html
At the point where you can reduce the systems and subfleets you can also increase the conventional modes.
This is the point where the software won't give me access.
He also gives instructions to get rid of that last trunking mode. I can't get that to work either.
All kinds of problems here.
Thanks

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
OK, I am at a usable computer that the RSS will run on.
Start the RSS. Do an F2 to read the radio.
Do an F4 to "Change / Create / View the radio codeplug.
Do an F5 "Mode Configuration". On the next screen, on the bottom line is the selection F8 for the mode Utility.
Do the F8 selection and you will see a new screen come up. The screen will say "Utility Mode". The default
selection should be to add a conventional mode. This is what you want to do. On the next line it gives
you the option for where you want to add the conventional mode. Enter the mode (channel number) that
is the location you want to insert the new mode. It gives you the chance to enter what you want to call
the new mode your trying to enter. You only get an 8 character name here. It also gives you the choice
to copy from another mode. When your done, press F8 to save your efforts for each mode you add.
You need to do this for each mode you need to add. When your done entering the new modes, press F10
to get back to the "Mode Configuration" screen. Here you step to the mode (channel) you need to finish.
You now have to enter the conventional mode channel information like RX and TX frequency with the needed
tone squelch. Don't forget to go back to the main menu and do a save to the radio. Then do a save to the
archive file.
Once you get this far, you can probably figure out the scan list that you will also have to play with.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Ok Jim no problem with all the steps you mention. Until it gets to mode 10.
That's it, that's all you get.
That is the whole purpose to this posting.
Did you look at the link I provided? His instructions say you should be able to reduce the systems and subfleets to 1.
Then you should be able to increase the conventional modes up to 128.
Once you have read the radio do F4 for change/create/view. Then do F2 for RADIO-WIDE Configuration.
Ok on this page you should be able to get access to the left part of the screen to change systems and subfleets to 1
and then raise the conventional to 128 modes.
My cursor will not go to the left part of the screen. Does yours??????
That's where I'm stuck.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Would it help If I sent someone the codeplug so they can check it out and help me out?
Thanks

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Do you have a system key, to be able to access the trunked information on the left, as the article states?

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Yes the system is one that I setup and I have a dummy syskey set to that system ID. Is that what you want to know wavtar?
I'm not trying to hack into anybody system here. I want this trunking stuff gone. I just want a 100% analog, conventional radio.
Why is this so difficult to do???

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
I could be wrong but I don't think you can eliminate the last trunking system and personality,
unless you were to blank the controller board and start from scratch configuring it as a conv
only radio - is that what you are trying to do?

Thanks fineshot1
Actually I guess I wouldn't mind if there was a remaining trunking personality as long as I could get at least 60 conventional channels.
Can you help me with this?

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Sorry - no i can not assist you since i am unfamilar with the rss - just wanted to let you know that you can not
delete the last remaining trunk system and trunk personality - they must remain but will not hurt anything to
leave them in place. Now i believe you must add conventional personalities until you reach the max and not
sure what that number is.

that is the whole purpose of this thread.
I cannot increase the conventional modes. I'm stuck with 10. There should be 128 max.
Take a look at the link I have posted. According to this guy there is a way to get rid of that last trunking personality.

Yes - i realize the purpose of this thread but as i stated i am not familar enough with rss(i use cps for more moder radios)
to help you out. If I was you I would email that fella - perhaps he knows a solution to your situation.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
I was asking, as the article stated you needed a system key to be able to do what it details. It also states 'B' models may not let you do what it describes, so I would guess that's your problem. I suspect a SmartNet 'C' model would be a better candidate. Otherwise, take a read through the Spectra hacking info on Batlabs, and start learning the wonderful world of moflags:saberjerk wrote:Yes the system is one that I setup and I have a dummy syskey set to that system ID. Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Wow, this is a convoluted thread.
First, you need to delete the trunked personalities and systems in the radio. I believe this does NOT require a system key, but I could be wrong.
Once that's done, go to Radiowide F4/F2. If the radio has a new enough firmware revision/EEPROM revision, you should be able to enter/tab to the fields that show 15 systems, 16 talkgroups per system, 10 conventional channels. You can then decrease systems and talkgroups, which will let you increase conventional channels. You will NOT be able to decrease these values any lower than the number of systems and TGs/system currently in the radio, thus the importance of deleting the personalities first.
If you have an older revision and can't get to those fields, you're pretty much screwed. You can find the revision by reading the radio (don't load a codeplug - read the radio), then hitting F1, then F9. Versions should be on the top-right.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
You mean to tell me that there is no possible way to turn this radio into a conventional only radio??
Is the reason that no one is volunteering to help out here because this is a trunking radio?
Maxtrac, astro spectra and probably others can be easily turned into conventional only radios.
Why not the lowly regular 800 spectra. Is this radio truly total junk?????

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Yes, you can, with LAB & moflag manipulation. I don't think people are unwilling to help you, but your particular model doesn't lend itself to the procedure outlined in your link, that's all.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Ok thanks wavtar.
You mean someone has actually tried to make a 800 trunking radio like this conventional?
Can you give me a link to a thread that discusses this?
This thread has been here a while and only one person has even offered to look at my codeplug.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Gee, I gave you step-by-step instructions on how to do it yourself, and you never said if that worked or not.saberjerk wrote:This thread has been here a while and only one person has even offered to look at my codeplug.
Only one person has "offered to look at your codeplug"? WTF? This isn't the free Moto tech support line... if you don't want to figure it out for yourself with the help of the community, I'm sure you could post a Wanted thread in FSWT and offer to pay to have someone do the work for you.
Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Gee tvsjr I did exactly what you said and it didn't work. And no I don't take this as a free moto help line.
And why don't you think figuring this out would not help the bat community???
By the way that was the same as I did using the site on the link I provided. Which also didn't work.
It may be pilot error but I have tried several times.
I offered to send anyone a copy of the codeplug to try to help out. Only one taker, thanks Jim
Still haven't solved anything.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
Yes, it would appear most people answering the thread didn't read through the link you provided...frustrating, I know. At it's most basic, since your model doesn't support changing the number of trunked personalities in exchange for the conventional ones, you would need to bit bang the model number into a conventional only, and force in an appropriate codeplug. Moflags may need to be manipulated to make sure all the features of the codeplug match what the radio thinks it has. All done with LAB, of course. I haven't delved into Spectra hacking at all, so I only know what's posted in that section on Batlabs, which I posted a link to a few replies earlier.
And yeah, Spectra hacking is a completely different beast than Astro/Jedi & others. If you're not up to it, finding a Smartnet "C" model which should do what you want might be the better option.

Re: help changing trunking radio to conventional
To eliminate trunking you can read the radio, then do a limited clone of the codeplug, conventional only, this will delete all the trunking data(except for one trunking personality , which must remain in the codeplug) This will also free a large amount of memory in the radio.
