XTS5000R

Post by fchrist16 »

Hey all.

I have a XTS5000R on the way. My friend is going to program it for me, since he already has one and the software. He doesn't have the cable though, he borrowed one to program his. Would my MTS2k cable work fine for the XTS5k?

Also based off what I've read here, the firmware in this radio is R09 so he has to have at least R09 or better (10-??) for programming.

Regards,

The XTS5000 requires the astro25 portables ribless programming cable. It comes in either serial or USB if I'm not mistaken.

and yes, the CPS used must be at least what the firmware in the radio is. Of course if it was last programmed with CPS 12, then you would need that.

Frank,

Does your new radio have FPP? If the radio has FPP with Q52 only, and no Q53 then you do not want to use any CPS higher than 9.xx. If you do you will loose the FPP option. If your radio is not FPP then no worries on newer CPS.

Jim,

This is what my friend sent me for his description of the radio...

Flash code- 540008-000482-4   Firmware-R09.00.00  Tuning-R01.09.13   DSP-R09.00.00  PSDT-R03.01.00.
Options Installed in this Flash code.
H38- Smart Zone.
Q806- Astro Digital Option.
Q173- Smart Zone Multizone.
Q361- Astro 25 9600 Baud Rate Trunking System Option.
H14- Enhanced Digital ID display.
H869- Multikey.
Q446- Channel Anouncement.
Unit also includes a UCM board for the encryption key

It only has 6 buttons on it so I don't think its FPP.

Frank,

You are OK to use what ever version of CPS your friend has.

I wanted to let you know about the possible issue just in case.

Enjoy your new radio, you will like it.

Jim,

Thanks! It's a UHF Range 2 radio. Quite the little gem apparently. I'm looking around for a cheap cable now...

Frank, do yourself a favor.. Buy an OEM Motorola cable for it, and not a cheap aftermarket. You'll thank yourself, trust me..

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

thrice on this comment. the cheap aftermarket Ebay cables are junk, they don't work and can turn your nice $3800 radio into a doorstop. Spend the money for a REAL Motorola USB cable. You won't regret it.
