MCS 2000 low power setting?

Yesterday I picked up a really clean 100 watt 403-470 MCS 2000 at the Melbourne Florida Hamfest. The radio has a high & low power setting. Can the radio run comfortably at say 20 watts in the low power setting when the repeater is close by & 100 watts is not needed? If not, what is the lowest it can go & still run comfortably & efficiently? Also what guage wire should I run from the battery to the radio in the trunk. It came with a power cable kit, HKN4192B, but I've seen where that is described as a low/medium power cable. GARY N4KVE

Hi Gary,

The power cables for the high power trunk mount radios is 8 gauge stranded.

The MCS high power radio will work ok at 50 watts, but going any lower in power may cause the transmitter power amplifier to become very inefficient and even go spurious.
