Maxtrac mike TTP what does it fit?

Post by N4KVE »

Hello. I picked up what looks to be a Maxtrac TTP mike at a hamfest. I was told it "should" work in a GTX, but when I plug it in the radio, it goes right to xmit. Pressing the ptt does nothing, & no audio gets transmitted. The radio works properly with other mikes. The # of the mike is VMN1017A. Below that says "Made in Canada". Anyone know what this fits? That mic is for the MCX1000 series radios. The MCX radios are also known as "the Canadian Syntors" and a very good radio by the way.

Thanks, I actually have a UHF MCX 1000 in my storage locker. Is the mike wired differently from the GTX causing the radio to xmit when plugging in the mike, or are they all wired the same? If the mikes are wired differently, I'll keep it for my MCX, but if they are wired the same, I'll assume it's defective & return it. Thanks for the help. GARY N4KVE

I'm pretty sure the mcx1000's are different than the newer rj-45 mics.

Yes, they are different. You can get them to work in a Maxtrac/GTX by changing the wires around, if desired. I've done it in the past, although it was a while ago & don't have the pinouts handy.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

No emergency, but should you find the pinout pls post it. Either way I'll keep the mike, for my MCX 1000 or my GTX. Does anyone know if the MCX 1000 was ever sold in the States, or did a few just happen to migrate south of the border? GARY N4KVE

MCX 1000 was definitely sold in the United States. I've seen a few of them in service with various agencies over the years. Most of them found their way onto motorcycles that I've seen.
