Repeater Issue
I have a UHF radio connected to a VHF Digital Radio via a ric unit for transmission between my Public Safety Agency and The Counties Public Safety Agency. On out Channel Revving from the UHF radio I am getting a constant beep like the radio alert has been activated but no alert is programmed. The county is not showing that our radio is keyed up. Can this possibly be an failure alert. I can still receive the county through the beeping? I am just looking for some quick advise
Re: Repeater Issue
Well don't you think that a few bits of information might be needed in order for anyone to provide any feedback?
1. What brand and model is the UHF radio? What features are programmed active?
2. What brand and model is the VHF digital radio? What features are programmed active?
3. What RIC is being used - make and model?
4. Define constant Beep. What tone is the beep and how often does the beep occur.
5. You sort of indicate that the UHF county system is using radio ID. This may be part of the equation.
Reason is that radios of different flavors do different things under different conditions. Without some
real detailed descriptions, you might as well try to do a rain dance.

6. Is this an existing setup that used to work well for a long time, or a new setup that you need help getting to work correctly?
7. If it is an existing system, and you suspect a programming issue, do you know if it has been touched recently by your agency, or a service provider that may have caused the failure?

If it is a programming issue it is new. The only work that has been done to it is it was serviced by the Local Moto Shop in June.Bill_G wrote:6. Is this an existing setup that used to work well for a long time, or a new setup that you need help getting to work correctly?
This set up has worked very well for at least 4 years

Bill and Jim,
Thank you for your response. I was trying to get some advise before I had to climb 150' to check the repeter. The VHF Digital side was alerted from a ID # of 1004 which was causing the alert beeping and it rebroadcasted it on the UHF side. This system has worked well for our EMS agency to talk with the county's Public Safety for several years without incident. The only work on the system was done by the Moto dealer in June and that was just PM service work. I checked with the county and they told me that that alais did not exist in there system. So I am waiting to see if it happens again and if it does the Moto shop will have to look at programming. Again thanks for your response.
Re: Repeater Issue
Maybe someone added a radio with that ID and didn't tell anyone. There are people that put radios onto public
safety systems all the time and program their radios with features that they shouldn't be playing with without
prior approval. My guess is that this is one of those cases. Maybe who ever it was has realized what happened
and removed that ID.
The simple solution would be to remove all RX ID from the radio so it won't happen again. Not sure why you would
even have a beep set up on a repeater for a specific ID.

Re: Repeater Issue
Thanks Jim, I don't know why the the Beep (Alert) was set up on a repeater this was done by the Moto Shop. If it happens again the Moto Shop will be climbing up the 125' to reprogram it. Thanks for your response
