Serial to GCAI programming cable

Post by alannerd614 »

Has anyone else been having issues with new Serial to GCAI programming cables?

My USB - GCAI works fine, but I just bought 2 new serial ones, and neither is working appropriately.

I know it isnt my serial port, and everything is good in the cables (I.E. no wire breaks, etc..)

And for those that may not know (after I was educated here) GCAI is the term for for the mic/program jack on the front of a new ASTRO 25 series mobile (XTL).

Are they genuine Motorola cables or knock-offs?

Nobody's made a knock-off GCAI cable that I know of. I'm pretty sure the connector is propietary to Motorola.

They are genuine.

We actually have a case opened with Moto.

For whatever reason they have troubles.

There was a thread recently, another member had similar problems with the serial cable, search and you will probably find it

We've had to replace several of both the GCAI & 'Spectra' style serial ribless cables. I assume they are the same electronically, just a different connector. Whatever electronics they are using in the little in-line module seem to be crap. They just suddenly stop working. Never an issue with the USB style.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Ditto above.

I have zero problems with USB.

We received "replacement" serial ones. I thing I notice is that sometimes to get it to work, I have to unplug, power down radio, plug in, power on radio.

I believe one of the pins "senses" a difference.

At any rate, we have been building "rear" accessory programming cables..both serial and usb.
