I have a VHF GP380 here that was purchased off of ebay. The radio acted abnormal as a GP380, with ANY nearby sources of RF opening the radio's squelch up, and causing to the RSSI to show 5 bars. I figure that it needs to be fully aligned, but i've never had a radio behave that way. I have reflashed the radio over to an HT1250, but the problem is persisting. The RX audio is also horrible, and the display has a vertical row of pixels out.
I realize that these radios and factory seconds that didn't pass all the quality controls, but has anyone ever been able to easily correct these problems? The other UHF GP380 from the same source worked great.

Re: GP380 Constant open squelch
Two of the problems that you describe (poor rx audio and open squelch) bring to mind bad IF filters but I would expect the RSSI to indicate low if that were the case. An oscillation, most likely in the IF could also cause those symptoms and that would cause high RSSI indication. First suggestion would be, unless the radio was described as "inop" on eBay, contact the seller and dump it in his lap. I realize help from eBay is slim to none but, just maybe, you'll have a good seller who will stand behind his product (yeah, I believe in Santa Claus, too). Other than that, Depot??? IF they accept that radio.

It also sounds exactly like what happens when the wrong tanapa default codeplug is forced into a radio, did you check and make sure the tanapa on the radio matches what you flashed it to?
Re: GP380 Constant open squelch
It was an H25KDH9AN5 when I received it.. I flashed it to HT1250 Firmware 05.12.02 and then Wrote an H25KDH9AA6 codeplug, "C" version. I also tried "A" and "B" versions as well, and it still behaved the same way.

Is it possible it had the wrong codeplug to start with? Are there tags on the radio? Just make sure you are using a codeplug that is listed for that tanapa.

It's not a GP380 radio.NSPD wrote:I have a VHF GP380 here that was purchased off of ebay. The radio acted abnormal as a GP380, with ANY nearby sources of RF opening the radio's squelch up, and causing to the RSSI to show 5 bars.
I hope that MDC firmware inside (HT1250 & etc.), not EMEA.
