Using GPS Mic with XTS2500i

Post by pluto1914 »

I have a new GPS mic and XTS2500i with version 12.0 firmware. I am using CPS 12 too, within the CPS I have location enabled but when I put the mic on the radio it doesn't work at all.

Am i missing something?

The documentation i have that came with the microphone indicates that it will function with an B version XTS2500, which I have.

What I find strange is that nothing functions on the mic. Its as if nothing were connected to the radio.

From my list of Astro25 firmware revisions in the Astro section,

R10.00.00

GPS Microphone is now supported by XTS2250I / XTS2500 radios

So you are correct, it should work on your 8meg B revision with Host R12.xx.xx.

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

There is a battery in the GPS speaker-mic. It normally gets charged by being connected to the radio.

If your GPS mic has been sitting for a long time the battery may need a period of time to recharge.

That happened to me. I have one that I bought but didn't have a chance to use for a while. When I did try it at first it appeared to be inoperative.

Would that battery have anything to do with why I do not get any received audio through the RSM but only on the radio?

Try any other remote speaker mic. I suspect that your side connections have issues.
The GPS mic should have receive audio right off the bat.
The battery mentioned in the other post is to hold the gps settings as received by the GPS
board.
I have seen an XTS2500 not work with the GPS RSM, only to find out it didn't work
with any RSM... (Bad side contacts with the flex inside).

I normally use an Moto speaker mic (RMN5038A). It works great, even the emeregency button. I don't understand what its problem is.
