Using standard mobile mic with XTS

Is it possible to use a XTL mic with an external speaker on a XTS 5000?

I use both a XTS 2500 & 5000 for work in a vehicle. I however do not like the speaker/mic feeling or the audio that comes from them, especially while in a vehicle with road noise, radio, siren, etc. I understand that I can just plug in an external speaker and be done. I am looking to kill two preferences with one accessory.

Unfortunately the portable coverage is so well in the area; the cost saving idea is to keep mobile radios out of the vehicles.

To better explain what I want: I want a standard Motorola hand mic with the XTS accessory plug. I do not want thee sound from this hand mic, of course, and would plug in an external speaker with this.

Any ideas of who (if anyone) would make this? I have searched with no success.

I understand what you're saying here however you may want to look at the XTVA.

Made to work with the XTS5000, it gives you external amplified speaker, regular mobile mic too. Maybe a manual with pinouts could help you on your way.

It's still not clear as to what exactly you want to do. However, you are probably already aware of these facts:

1. Many XTS speaker/mics have a jack for an external speaker. The audio quality, presence, and "throw" is almost always greatly improved by putting even a small mobile speaker to use plugged in the speaker/mic's jack. Problem is when you pick up the mic to use you have an extra wire hanging off it.

2. Your mention/use/need about the XTL jack is not clear. There is probably very little electrical compatibility between the mic connections for an XTS and an XTL radio, and to start with the plug connections are completely different, but I guess you know this already.

3. If by chance you mistyped XTL and meant to type XTS then the answer to your question is in 1., above.

I understand what you're saying here however you may want to look at the XTVA.

That too was my first thought; but, I use both a 2500 and a 5000. Being the speaker/mic connectors are the same on both of the radios, my next best thought was to adapt a mic and external speaker that could work with both (1 at a time of course).

That would have been the easiest (and most logical) thought that I would have had a typo. I on the other hand let my mind wonder and this is where I end up. The actual idea is to use a standard mobile hand mic and a extension speaker.

I do agree that the XTVA is the best solution to the problem but hate to install something that will only take care of half the problem. I would need to get one for the 2500 (if one would even be available) and one for the 5000.

Couldn't I just remove a speaker/mic head and replace it with a hand mic? Obviously the speaker portion would not work, which would be bypassed anyway when a external speaker would be plugged in.

Any thoughts??

You could get an NMN6193B or similar speaker mike which has the earphone jack on top of the radio connector.
The output is probably not strong enough to power a speaker, but you can get a powered speaker and drive the
input from this.
