Question for Canadians re MTX 4500, & MTX4550

Post by N4KVE »

Hello. A while back I picked up a MTX 9250, 900 MHZ Waris radio to use on amateur freq's. I like the radio, & the menu seems to be very similar to my UHF Jedi's, AS3's, & XTS3000's. Specifically the 3 modes at the bottom of the screen, & the 3 buttons under the screen to choose the modes. I had asked here a while back if the UHF HT1250 being a Waris would have a similar menu setup as a 9250, & was told it was totally different, although RF wise, it was still a Waris. Well in the recent "Motorola Oddball" thread someone posted a photo of a UHF MTX4550 that is a blue CSA approved UHF Waris. I'm not keen on the blue case, but the buttons seem to have the same functions as my 9250, except the home button shows a picture of a home instead of the word home. My question is does this Canadian Waris have a similar menu & work the same as my MTX9250? Thanks. GARY N4KVE

Since they share the same CPS, I'm gonna say 'probably', although I've never worked with 9250's...all we ever sold were 850's. Someone else might chime in with more info, otherwise if you sent me a 9250 codeplug I could do some comparisons...or I could send you a 4550 codeplug for that matter.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

The MTX9250 uses the Type II/PP firmware, making it operate very similar to the MTX9000/MTS2000.

I would imagine that if an HT1250 with a 512k prom was flashed with GP580 firmware and loaded with a UHF GP580 codeplug, it would operate in the same way, although i'm not sure what the conventional channel capacity of those radios since they are designed for Smartzone.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep my eye out for one of those. I grew up in Montreal, so I'll have some friends keep their eye open up there, but that GP580 looks like the exact radio I'd want. It's a European model though. One day I'll find a 403-470 MHZ 580 flashed 1250. Long ago I did some amazing things with Jedi's so anything is possible. Thanks again. GARY N4KVE
