XTS2500 CPS and Windows 7 64-bit

I have searched a lot before posting, but I can't seem to find a suitable thread on this topic. In my home I only have Linux, and Windows 7 64-bit machines. I know that programming a radio with Linux (even under Wine, or Crossover Pro) is just a good way to make a fancy looking paperweight, so I'm left with my Windows 7 64-bit system. Can I use the XTS 2500 CPS in Windows 7 64-bit to read/write the radio, or is this a no no? Thanks

Does not appear that Astro 25 R13.00.01 (current version) supports anything higher than 32 bit Vista, direct from the readme file in CPS:

You could consider installing and running the software in one of the supported compatibility modes available in Windows 7 64-bit (which is what I do) or run them in the XP virtual machine that is supported by Windows 7.

Windows 7 has been designed to run programs that were developed to run under XP and Vista, and has also provided the XP Mode download for older programs that would run only under XP.

I am running v12 CPS on Win7 x64 with no problems whatsoever. I give the patport.exe file 'admin' access & then have it disable desktop composition as well (shuts of Aero-Glass). Have not a single issue working with either of my 5000's or my 2500 this way.

I was able to make the CPS work in the XP mode VM, but it took quite a while to read the radio. I was too damn scared to try and write back to it!

Thanks. That's good to know. If I follow your steps for patport.exe, but I make a mistake, will I brick the radio, or just need to write it with 32-bit XP?

You won't brick the radio - at the worst, the software will just not 'run'.

Any luck on getting the USB to work? I am running the CPS in Windows 7 64 Bit and it works great using the serial cable plugged into the PCMCIA serial card but it would be alot easier if I could just use the USB cable.
