If a Quantar repeater is operating in P25 mode, does a connected dispatch console have to do the work of translating the P25 data into analog audio, or could a simple tone remote or other basic console be used to play the audio for the dispatcher?
In other words, is there some sort of an "analog output" on the Quantar for use by a connected dispatch console?
This would be for a dispatch console connected by wire/tone remote, not a control station scenario.

AFAIK you need a DIU.
Re: P25 Quantar - analog audio output for a console?
The Quantar does not have an IMBE vocoder in it whatsoever... it just receives bits, reframes them, and retransmits them. If you want audio, you'll need an external vocoder, like a DIU3000.

Thanks for the info. I kinda suspected that was the case.
What is a ballpark price for a DIU?
