MT1000 MTVA N1671A UHF RF amp useage question
i see these units selling around, and im curious if they will operate by supplying power to the connector, and then applying RF to the input, the reason i ask is there's 2 connectors on it, a 25 pin and a 9 pin and i dunno if anything has to be connected to them to get it to simply amplify a hand held. im considering this for HT usage. the other question is, can the power in and out be adjusted, such as, it says 4 watts in 25 out, can it be set to take less than 4 watts in, and still provide 25 watts out?

i meant HT1000 also works with MT2000 and MTS2000

The DB9 is for a data option - so you wont care about that. The DB25 is for the cable that interfaces the cradle and rfpa/controller unitwazzzzzzzzup wrote:i see these units selling around, and im curious if they will operate by supplying power to the connector, and then applying RF to the input, the reason i ask is there's 2 connectors on it, a 25 pin and a 9 pin and i dunno if anything has to be connected to them to get it to simply amplify a hand held. im considering this for HT usage. the other question is, can the power in and out be adjusted, such as, it says 4 watts in 25 out, can it be set to take less than 4 watts in, and still provide 25 watts out? wazz
and has another wire(yellow wire) for ignition which turns the rfpa on. The main power wire is supposed to be hot and the yellow ignition
cable powers up the rfpa/controller unit. I do not know which DB25 pin is the ignition wire as the moto install doc 68P81075C90-A does
not go into that kind of detail. You should be able to drive the amp with less than 4 watts but the output will drop also. If you can aquire
that cable and take the DB25 conn apart you should be able to determine which pin is the ignition(just follow the yellow wire). The interface
cable part numbers are below. Hope that helps....
NKN6453A - interface cable, 8ft
NKN6454A - interface cable - 16ft

Re: MT1000 MTVA N1671A UHF RF amp useage question
i will look into the cable. also theres 2 power connectors, one is on the back side where the maxtrac PA is, and the other is on the side with the DB connectors, do both need to have power or just the back or front?

Yes - both need to be powered with +12V (not switched ignition but hot all the time) from the vehicle.wazzzzzzzzup wrote:i will look into the cable. also theres 2 power connectors, one is on the back side where the maxtrac PA is, and the other is on the side with the DB connectors, do both need to have power or just the back or front? wazz
One is for the rf amp and the other is for the cradle i/f and audio amp.

Re: MT1000 MTVA N1671A UHF RF amp useage question
from a march thread that i couldnt find searching the batboard site, and found searching google
i dont have an rf power meter, but i do have a DC amp meter on the supply to the RF AMP it draws .02A without pin 20 getting power, when pin 20 has power it draws .06 to .08A when i key the radio, it doesnt draw any more than .06-.08A i would figure that if its operating it should draw about 6 amps, roughly what a 25 watt maxtrac would be during TX
im driving the amp with 2 watts
also, moderators, maybe it would be a good idea to append this thread to the following

im wondering if another pin on the 25 pin cable needs power?

My unit (N1671B) has an additional wire soldered into pin 20 of the 25pin Interconnect port. The line has an in line power fuse between the 25 pin and the connector on the other end.
Does anyone have a pinout of the 25 pin interconnect or does anyone know what this would be for?
Thank you, Don
i decided to get one, and i have hooked it up, supplied power to both large power connectors, run 12v + to the pin 20.techie wrote:Ignition - switched +12.

on a side note, i noticed this RF amp has the high power maxtrac transistor in the back which is usually on the 25-40 watt mobiles. but i only intend on running it at 25 watts. model N1671Atechie wrote:The power levels are drive level dependant. (ie: 2.0w in for 25w out on vhf/uhf)
per the manual, low power should be used when using a RFPA.
proper drive levels are 2.0w for vhf/uhf

Re: MT1000 MTVA N1671A UHF RF amp useage question
Not sure where the two watts figure came from. I have many MTS2000's here and in vhf-hi they usually do at least
3.5 to 4.5 watts output and on uhf s split i usually see about 3.5 to 4 watts out. On the MTX9000's I usually see
about 2.5 watts output. I have no jedi 800 radios to try.
Anyway - be sure your radio is putting out enough power to drive the amp. We use the 3.5 to 4 watts with
no problems and never had an amp over driven issue. Not sure what the minimum drive level is for these
moto amps.
Good luck and happy holidays.....

Re: MT1000 MTVA N1671A UHF RF amp useage question
my application is for ham, i have a radio that is putting out 2 watts in the uhf ham band.
im not planning on using this with a convertacom, atleast for now, maybe later if i find a good deal on the cable and radio holder.
the 2 watt per the manual quote was from the thread from back in march about MVA part numbers and some basic info.

Ah - ok, i see. i never tried running one of these in the ham bands so i have no experience with that. i imagine the tuning would bewazzzzzzzzup wrote:my application is for ham, i have a radio that is putting out 2 watts in the uhf ham band.

affected by the out of band move. Good luck with that.
BTW - we refer to these things as "convert-a-crap" since they take much abuse and don't seem to hold up very well over time. We
have replaced many of these holder units over the years. The amps seem to last a much longer time between failures.

Re: MT1000 MTVA N1671A UHF RF amp useage question
i was doing some more research on the site tonight of the older "brick" amps, and several posts indicate they are a relay driven amp. inside the HT1000 AMP i do see a relay in the middle, is the N1271A also a relay driven amp? if anyone has the repair manual on PDF for this amp that would be a big help for tracing wires and circuts.
i dont hear the relay click when RF is applied to the input.
also, i have applied aprox 4-5 watts to the input on 449.000 with no results, the amp and pin 20 had DC power.
