MTX Fail 01/93

I just bought a MTX 8000 ,i used Lab to write a C/P to and now have fail 01/93.I know this is common for the MTS series but even the label on back of the radio says MTX8000.
Anyone know what i have done wrong,or am i stuck with a btick now,

What is the firmware rev?

Did you save an s-record before you started?

No i did not save the s-record ( first big mistake ) but i didn't think i had to since it was a MTX8000.
How do i find out what the lastest firmware it is ?

What is the MODEL number and did you write it with windows CPS or DOS RSS?

The model number is H01UCh6DB7AN ,i use Depot Tool Ver R02.00.01 RSS
I remebered you have to press the side button on start up to get into the menu,but i don't remeber all the command,it did say R01.37 which i believe is a MTX.

Max,

You normally don't have to save a s-record for anything other than a true MTS2000, but I have had problems just like you in the past so I now always save a s-record just to be safe.

The firmware is MTX, I was only asking because I recall seeing a post about MTS controllers in late model MT/MTX radios.

It has been some time, but IIRC the unit I had an issue with was a 99 ch MTX838 with a top display. I was able to recover it with another depot level codeplug/archive. So if you have another unit try that, if not look for a depot level codeplug that will work for you. Of course you are going to have to fully re-align the radio.

it is tool proofed if a newer Flashport type controller is installed, seen this on depoted MTX radios. Apparently as the Jedi product line was brought to a close, depot started using the newer 1MEG Flashport controllers versus the older masked ROM non-Flashport ones on MT2000 and MTX radios that came in. So, if you use one of the forbidden fruit RSS versions on them, you get the dreaded fail 01/93.

ALWAYS check the controller ver in test mode BEFORE writing to a Jedi! An MTX/MT should see anything higher than 2.13. If using that forbidden stuff, do an S-record backup of that radio and guard the archive! If you end up with a fail 01/93, this is the only way known minus a trip to the depot or controller replacement to recover from the error.

Ok,thanks everyone for your help,i really appreciate it.
For future projects,how do i confirm what controller ver is in the radio before using any Lab RSS ?
And of course i have learned my lesson,always make a copy of the s-record.

The radio could possibly have a 6147 or in the case of a 900 6153 board but I doubt that it has any higher firmware version than 1.53 (the masked ROM boards were 1.52). If you were using the forbidden lab tool to program that radio you'll need to read it then from the main menu hit F3 and then F9. Both sides should have the same serial number and model number. After verifying that information, by verify I mean retype both fields, you go to the program screen and use all three program options in succession (it's a bit overkill but it's worked for me in the past).

The main beauty with this version of software for me is that it is the only way to recover 01/82 errors on radios that have had age related failures, this generally occurs on BGA type EEPROMS and not the standard surface mount ones. Motorola's offical lab software was unable to read or fix those isssues so many times the unit got boards.

If the above does not work you might try reading another MTX radio with the same Model number and then changing the S/N to match your current radio and blowing that codeplug into it.

No,never got it fixed.You will not be able to load a S-Record from another radio,it has to be the image of the original radio.
But i now make a S-Record of every MTX before i do any programming just incase.
