Locks for Moto cabinets

Post by nytech »

Gents,

Have notice things being "touched" inside some of my 60" cabinets at a few sites. I saw another tenant using Medeco locks on his cabinet to prevent this. Anyone have a supplier for these, or does M offer a different lock (besides the 2135) for their cabinets?

Thanks

If you have a spare lock for reference you can find a replacement with a different key at any good locksmith's shop. I've also seen combination locks on the doors of newer racks at repeater sites. Then of course there are the super security locks that Motorola now puts on its sensitive (read: Federal) repeater cabinets. I've never been able to figure out what exactly it is that unlocks them or how they actually work but they'd obviously be ideal if your Motorola rep can get them for you.

Edit: After writing this I remembered that years ago I put a Motorola mobile lock on my garage door as a replacement and it's still in operation and working fine. I did have to change the locking arm, however, due to length requirements.

Head to Home Depot and buy a replacement mailbox lockset & key. It fits the D hole, and they come with adjustment nuts to set the depth. You may or may not have to reuse the swing arm off the old lock. Just don't lose the key.

if you really want Medeco go to your local Medeco dealer (read NOT home depot/lowes/etc)
be prepared to pay $80 per lock or so.
