Post by KitN1MCC »

I just replaced the display in my mine. and it powers up but not every time. the top light flashes green but it does not complete the power up sequence. i have to squeze the or put pressure on front cover. and it goes on no problem. i am thinking i may need to replace inner metal peice. any ideas

also i did put a new key pad (just the keys not the Circuit board)

My HT1550 has the same problem. Radio was sent to the depot for the LCD repair for bad pixels. When returned it exhibited the same power up delay. At times, it powers on normally. At other times it may wait 30 to 45 seconds before powering on. The LED also flashes green the same as KitN1MCC's. The only difference is the firmware was upgraded at the depot along with the LCD replacement.

I too have had the same problem. I had the housing/display replaced and it hesitates from time to time. Also, while on sometimes the display cuts out but the radio is still on because the tx/rx led would work.... So I dunno maybe the flex ribbon thingie

well took it apart again it seems like display does not want to say ok during power up.

if i disconnect the display and just have the key pad connected it is fine . also i found tapping on the back of the lcd/putting pressure seemed to get it to go ok. i put some folded over paper inbtween the screen and the metal seems to help

maybe a lot of bad displays again

The problem may actually be caused by the conductive adhesivve used on the LCD modules.

If finger pressure forces the LCD to operate, then this is where the main area of the problem resides.

One other sore spot is the wimpy folding clamp type sockets used on the keypad assembly.

Too much force will snap the clamping lever, or one side of it to break, losing equal pressure on the LCD flex.

The part number I have for the LCD module is: 5104949J09

Too much force of the LCD will break it.
I try to keep at least 2 of these on hand for just such troubles.

This is the part number for a HT1250 & family display (LS, LS+ models, MTX8250 etc) and is not a 4 line display so it won't fit or work in a HT1550

The correct part number for a HT1550 display is 5105385Y57

Also note the HT1550 has its own firmware upgrade file since it has a 4 line display

My suspicion with regard to the most recent occurrence of this problem is that there may be some sort of firmware issue-- but I am not aware of any firmware issues with the Pro series displays like there is with the Astro portables so it's a long shot

And a BIG Homer Simpson 'DOH' goes to the captain of the Enterprise....I forogot about that 'little' itsy bitsy teeny issue...FOUR line dispalay! :-O

Well, my number will get you the LCD for the HT1250 at least...(face saving as much as possible here Jeff).

No worries mate, my main concern is the (somewhat) relative frequency of the problem and the fact the problem's been around for several months. I don't know if it's a bad batch of materials or what, although Kit's workaround on the contact pads seems like something worth trying. Wouldn't surprise me if the specs on the display were loose enough to where they'd pass QC but still cause intermittent problems in the field :x

I'm having the same problem with mine. I replaced the display and began having the same symptoms. My firmware is 05.09.00 and could use an update but I don't know if that will help. Has anyone come up with a solution?
