GP to HT - Cant seem to find an answer

Post by rydzewski »

I've been looking around the web and on here and cant seem to find a definitive answer on if its possible to flash a GP-380 to a HT-1250 (VHF). Money's tight and if I can pick up a GP for 140 bucks and make it work like my stolen HT i would be a happy camper!!

There have been reports that it can be done, but you will not find anyone who has posted instructions on how to do so. You are also looking at a very complex and expensive (if you hose your radio) modification. The GP380 has a different EEPROM and memory capacity, the firmware between the two radios is very different, and the radios require a different version of CPS for programming.

Unless you are willing to risk the $140, spend a considerable amount of time trying to convert the radio, and have the equipment to retune the radio afterwards, forget about it - you would be better off buying a good condition used HT1250 from someone on the board.
