Filtering MDC1200 signalling for a console

We are setting up a new communications center with a Zetron 4010 console and a Quantar repeater for one channel. I'd like to use MDC signalling on that channel.

The XTS and XTL portables and mobiles have the data operated squelch (DOS) feature that reduces the annoying "squak" noise heard by the users. I don't see any similar option in the Quantar RSS however.

Our system vendor has suggested an audio delay board option for the Zetron console, that will mute the incoming audio for approximately 250ms and suppress the MDC squak from the dispatcher. I'm thinking this would work for the first keyup, but subsequent keyups during the repeater hang time would not be filtered.

I was wondering if, as an alternative solution, there exists an external DOS device, that could be inserted in the console audio path?

Any other ideas would also be appreciated. I searched posts here but didn't find any solutions.

The cheap fix would be to use wildcard programming in the Quantar to mute the receive audio for the first 250 ms after every unsquelch but an MDC decoder driven mute function would probably be a more reliable solution.

For example, you could add a Cimmaron C Plus decoder at the console. You can use the C Plus data mute output to solve your problem and the dispatcher would also have MDC ID & alias display.

Alternatively, you could install the C Plus at the Quantar and configure it to mute the audio going to the phone line. You could also configure it to mute the repeat audio path so no one hears the MDC. If you installed a short audio delay board you could also eliminate even the brief chirp at the leading edge of the MDC decoder detect.

If the Zetron 4010 has a MDC decoder in it it should mute the tones. We have several 4010's and do not hear the MDC in the console audio.

If I remember correctly when you install the MDC decoder you have to remove a jumper in the console that passes the select audio, the select audio now goes thru the MDC decoder and the decoder can mute the tones.
