Recapping a Spectra

Post by Max »

I have a Astro Spectra that needs a few capacitors replaced.More specifically the ones that cause the popping noise from the speaker.
I am looking for someone that can replace the capacitors for a reasonable price.I live in Canada, and i'm guessing i would have to ship it to someone in the USA.
I am not qualified to do this job,and don't want to risk trying it myself.
If anyone can do this kind of work, please email me with a price.

Thanks
Max

There are Canadians on the board. Wavetar is back east I think in the Nova Scotia area.

Max,

Check the DC voltages on each speaker lead with the radio receiving a carrier. The voltage from each side of the speaker to ground should be equal. If not I would suspect that someone grounded one of the speaker leads and damaged the audio IC.

Popping in the speaker on an Astro Spectra is caused by imbalance in the audio IC putting a DC voltage across the speaker.

I can repair these and have the Audio IC's here.
