Rib Problems I Know its probably above my Head

I have two ribs one from barnwell and one from radiostew. I am having problems with the motorola software in particular 1225 recognizing it attached to the com port or seeing it is there some special way my com port hast to be set or?????

are you using "M" cables or homemade cables?
i had the same problem untill i did a continuity check on each pin on the pc to rib cable and found that 2 wires were crossed. after swapping the 2 it worked fine.
also, if the battery is dying or the radio and rib are not "on" you may get that error, too.
