astro spectra XTL5000 VRS mobile detector issue
anybody have experience with the mobile detector function of the VRS750 or any other VRS that uses mobile detector? got one that hears the other VRS and as it should it stops transmitting due to it realizing its not the priority. im wondering how it knows to go active again later? or does it go active without shutting off vrs and turning it back on again.

It starts a countdown timer upon carrier det from the main radio while monitoring it's simplex channel. The first vrs to reach zero becomes the new priority unit and starts transmitting. IOW, on the first transmission, expect a few/bunch/whole lot of syllables to be lost until a new priority is established.

is this timer adjustable? and if so what is it called in the program?

Negative. It's a randomized counter.

Re: astro spectra XTL5000 VRS mobile detector issue
in the VRS tab, theres several options, "base repeater" and "mobile detector. one of the astro units with VRS is configured as a BASE to provide portable coverage on a property and relay those portables several counties away to another similar system. is there a setting to KEEP one VRS system always a priority so it doesn't hand off priority to a mobile with active VRS in the area which would take down the link. not exactly a setup that the VRS was designed for, but hey, the hobby is about experimentation right? and when it works its kick A**!
