Re: XTS 2500 Programing???
Well for starters,
What's the model number of your 2500?
What kind of CPS do you have?
What kind of cable do you have?

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

The flashcode and what you are trying to listen to (conventional, trunked, P25, analog, etc...) will be helpful as well. The flashcode and model number should be on tags on the back of the radio under the battery.
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

If you're trying to monitor 800 mHz transmissions you'd be better off buying a scanner. Almost everything on
800 mHz is trunked, be it the older analog systems or the newer digital ones, and there is no way you can set
up your 2500 to scan these systems in a way that would be useful to you. The reasons are many and varied,
and you can do several searches on the Board for a lot of information on the subject, but the fact is that unless
you have certain private, guarded information about a trunked system (obtainable only from the system administrator)
you can't monitor it unless you just listen to all the channels in use, in turn, and you'll never know what zone,
battalion, department or whatever you're hearing because the frequencies on trunked systems change all the time.
So, to reiterate what's been written on this Board many, many times before, buy a scanner.

Re: XTS 2500 Programing???
Besides all the reason stated above by Tom,your CPS is out of date and if that XTS2500 has been programmed with a newer version of the CPS software, like 12 or 13,that CPS when you install it on your pc and try reading the radio codeplug, you will get a "codeplug too new for program"error message.
Current CPS is R13.00.01 if I am not mistaken...??

Re: XTS 2500 Programing???
Thanks for all who replied....is the CPS software upgradedable or do I have to buy the latest verision? my XTS 2500 are not nor have they ever been programed. I got them do to I'm part of county Search and Rescue (volunteer) so me and a fellow SAR buddy could chat, and not be on the wrong frequency.

Re: XTS 2500 Programing???
In order to put your personal radios on the SAR system you'll probably need the permission of the system administrator. If he/she says it's okay, then your radio will have to go to the Motorola shop that takes care of your unit's radios so it can be set up to conform to the system's official programming structure. Privately owned radios are fine on a public service system but privately programmed radios are not because you don't know nearly enough about how it's done to do it right.
Also, "chatting" on a public service frequency that's been licensed to your SAR group is not permitted. If you want to chat then get an FRS radio or a ham license, neither of which work on 800 mHz.
The above comments are not meant to sound harsh or anything like that. It's just that the FCC controls the licensing and operation of public service radio comms and it's expected that everyone connected with the licensed operations follow the rules.

Thanks Tom for your knowledge, I will look into the FRS system.
