Encryption Help!!!

Post by scsttrooper »

Ok everyone... I am new to motorola encryption and just pruchased a XTS5000 with Secure VAR and Secure ADP. The radio is 700/800Mhz and is being used on a type ii system. My questions sounds simple but I know that it can be complicated... What can I do with the types of encryption in this radio? Can I encrypt regular analogue talk groups? I do not know much about encryption so please help me out...

Mark is quite correct - you need to speak with your sysadmin.

I'm not secure what Secure VAR is. Typical algorithms are DES, DES-XL, DES-OFB, DVP-XL, ADP, AES-256. ADP, DES-OFB, and AES-256 can only be used on P25 transmissions. If the system is Type II and analog voice, special encryption-capable repeaters are required.

Turn the radio off, then back on. Once it powers up, immediately press the side button above PTT 5 times. You'll see several screens of information - anything prefaced "KG" will tell you the available encryption algorithms (such as "KG1 DES-OFB").
