Spectra trunked to conventional

Post by n2pdq »

Has anyone converted a 900mhz spectra from a trunking only to conventional model. I understand you can reflash the mlm board, if I'm correct? Let me know if anyone has some more insight.

Thanks

I've had success by using the bit banger feature in Spectra Lab RSS.

Bang it into a C or E model, remove the trunking mode and define a conventional mode. Then bang it back into an A model.

The B models are a bit light in the braincase, if you know what I mean. Features are very much limited to what MLM the unit has.

If I read it correctly, it works as long as you have the syskey files for the radio. If you don't, you can't do anything with the trunk modes in the radio, even delete them? I have never found any agency willing to give up their syskey files and, of course, if you buy a radio on the internet, it's unlikely that you'll get syskey files with the radio (seller probably doesn't even have them). Is there any other way to clear out those modes? Or, am I misreading something?

You just make up your own system key! It is a bit of a lost art, but see:

You will need Spec Lab to convert to conventional, so won't need a sys key. Just delete the trunk systems and modes. There is a trick to remove the last trunked mode here on the Labs, just do that and you now have a conventional codeplug.
