CDM repeater audio issue (tied to Cisco VOIP)

Post by Ravenboy2001 »

Recently installed a CDM repeater using RICK interface. Repeater is connected to a regional MPLS network and tied to a Cisco router using the E&M port on the router. Cable for interface between router and RICK was purchased from a company called Networked Radio. Programmed CDM's accordingly with what I believe are proper audio settings.

Issue is this - Repeater is tuned to specs and transmit receive audio is fine. As soon as radio cable (RICK to E&M card on router), the transmit audio goes into the dirt.

Anyone else ever use a CDM Repeater in a VOIP network and have any idea of whether or not there is a quick fix to boosting the audio back up. My guess is that someting in the E&M card is pulling the audio down. And yes, in case you're wondering, we have already tried adjust input gain in the radio and both input gain and output attenuation setting in the router configs.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The simple question to ask is were you careful of the DC bias on the TX external mic
input? I have always put a coupling cap in series with the mic connection to get
round this problem. Then go into the radio software and adjust the external mic
gain up to match what you need. I think the external mic is called ACC input.

On the RX side, again watch out for the DC bias on the fixed audio output line.
It wouldn't hurt to use a coupling cap here to remove the DC voltage also. I
normally use a 1.0 uf cap for both TX and RX coupling.

The connections I normally use are:
pin 2 = TX audio high
pin 3 = PTT
pin 7 = audio ground
pin 11 = RX audio high - fixed audio (not controlled by volume control)

Hope this helps to get you going.

Jim

Like Jim, my question is where is the mic hi inserted? In the accy port or the mic jack? You should use the accy port on the back for everything. Then you can get the cor & ptt going to the e&m leads from the e&m port along with hi impedance single ended audio, and gated rx audio.
