PM400 priority tone

Post by pwo0123 »

Hello. I was wondering if I could program my PM400 to send a priority tone out on a conventional channel as a alert to others to listen up. Im not sure what this type of tone is called. Most police departments have it for major incidents. some even have it go every 10-15 sec during a hot call.

thanks

Yes. Not the type of alert tones you'd get with a Motorola console setup (APB1, APB 2, ...), but the signalling/call options available on the PM400/CM300 would allow you to send a DTMF, MDC, or QC II tone (or sequence) from any one of your four programmable front panel buttons or from your keypad microphone (if you're using one of those). Recommendations on what you might work best for you would depend on exactly what you're trying to accomplish (i.e., dispatch radio alerting, supervisor radio alerting, paging, etc.). Let us know.

If you're not in public service and just using the radio to yak with your friends by all means do NOT make the tone transmission automatic. Your friends will go nuts if you do and will not appreciate it if they have to listen to the same annoying tone every time you hit your PTT.

Im pretty new to mobile radios like the pm400 so bear with me. Does motorola sell console software to use with a pm400 or is it a whole setup?? What im basically trying to accomplish is when there is some priority incident, I want our dispatcher two use one of those four buttons in the front of the radio to send a basic one second tone out so everyone can pay attention. Now i have some experience with setting up a basic DTMF call/tone but was wondering if there was another way of doing it.

A bit more background is that personal on the field have ht1250ls+ radios that use basic conventional channels. nothing special at all.

thanks for the help!!!

Er... FYI... APB buttons on a console are transmit buttons for multiselects... Not alert tones. On a console, it's just labeled "Alert 1", "Alert 2" and "Alert 3".

What was I thinking? You are sooo correct, as I wipe the egg off. Anywho, what HE said. 8)

I'll have to fire up my PM/CM software, but I'm trying to remember if there is single-tone signalling in that model series. That would probably work best for the application you are describing, if it's in there.
