If you have the correct RSS then the problem is likely to be that you're not running true DOS. The W98 so-called DOS is not the same as DOS 6.22 because the W98 version screws up the serial port's communications. Do a search on this Board for the subject as it has been discussed hundreds of times in the past. If you boot into DOS 6.22 your RSS should work fine. Being able to read the radio but not write to it is typical of this situation.

There is no CPS for MT2000's, it's DOS RSS only.

MTS2000's can use RSS or CPS.

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

It means that that radio's codeplug has been written at some point with a NEWER RSS than what you are using now.

What version do you have now? I heard that the "latest release" was like 6.07, but that some radios were programmed with 6.08, which I heard Motorola didn't even ship to customers when ordering it from them (unless they are doing it now).
Radios I own: Spectra VHF 110W with A7 head, HT1000 VHF, ICOM IC-F30 VHF, and a Puxing PX-888 VHF.
Scanner I own: Radioshack Pro-164

If you want to get around the 16 mode scan limit on the Motorola Spectra, then read this guide and go to the original thread Here! 8)
