RICK Repeater questions

Post by cusackmusic »

I'm setting up a VHF Repeater for my Fire Department using 2 M120s, a Celwave Duplexer, and a Motorola RICK, and I have a few questions:

What is the purpose of JU809 in the M120? The manual says remove it in the TX radio. Looks like it disconnects the "hook" function from PIN 14? Since I'm not using the hook function on the 16 pin on either radio, any reason I can't remove it from the RX radio as well? This would allow me to configure the two radios identically, which would allow me to "swap" them in an emergency. My thought is if the PA goes out, I could swap the cables, and be back up and running until I have time to fix the system.

Is there any reason I shouldn't program the two the same? I can't think of an issue this would cause, but maybe I'm not thinking it totally through. Since the TX radio is on the duplexer, it should never receive, and even if it did, the other radio would cause the TX radio to key up anyway, right?

Also, I forgot to remove the jumper in the TX radio, and it didn't seem to have any effect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jon
