Remoting consolette via serial over lan

Post by carbineone »

Has anyone tried remoting an MC3000 to a Consolette via serial over lan? What I would like to do is have the Consolette at a remote location connected to a pc running serial over lan and at the other end a pc running serial over lan connected to an MC3000.

Why use pc's when there are serial adapters, and serial servers?

Does the MC3000 convert the audio to digital format and back? Seems to me you'd still have to run at least two pair for the audio thus perhaps making the project moot (or maybe not).

Yes that should work. This is interesting now if I could send that over the internet to an MC3000 that would be a neat trick.

Yes, your right there. The MC3000 uses 4-pairs. Audio (RX and TX) takes 2-pair and the data takes 2-pair. Just extending the data alone will not provide full functionality.

From the consolette to the junction box is one DB25 cable then from the junction box to the MC3000 is just CAT5 no other connections are needed. I don't understand were you are getting this other connection from.

Connecting the deskset to the junction box uses cat5 cable, but it's not standard serial data going over it. It divides the 8 conductors up into 2 data lines, 2 analog tx audio lines, 2 analog rx audio lines, ground and busy.

It's basically like a standard analog 4 wire remote with the addition of digital control of radio functions.

Ok that makes sense so I guess there would be no way to remote analog lines.
