MCS2000 WITH FAIL 01/82

Hi, I was programming my MCS2000 and the battery on my RIB was to low and didn't finish the programming, I think it corrupted my radio, it came uo with a fail 01/82, I have a lot of archives for this radios and got a few with the very same model number, I tryied cloning one of this radios but it tells me that the settings on the radio are different than the ones on the one to be programmed, I tryed reading it and it won't unpack the codeplug, this is a radio that I just bought and don't have any archives for it. If somebody knows something to do about this PLEASE!! help me, I was so exited with my new radio (bought it used) and couldn't get to work with it it happened when I was programming it for the first time!! please if somebody knows a remedy please let me know and I will REALLY APPRECIATE IT!, my e-mail address is [email protected], THANK YOU!!

BatLabs says a Fail 01/82 is an External Codeplug error so I suspect all you will need to do is get a good codeplug into the radio.

This was also on BatLabs and might help:

It may be possible to bring a GM/GP900 which has a corrupted codeplug in it back to life. You will need to use MTSX Lab or Astro Lab RSS in order to do it, both will work fine.

You will not be able to unpack the codeplug when reading it, of course, but you can read/write to the radio fine. You need to use the F4 Read/Write Radio with No Pack/Unpack option to get the corrupted codeplug out of the radio.

The first thing you can try and do is get the codeplug out and save it to disk (use the F6 menu to save the archive). Then, open the codeplug in a HEX editor and take a look at it. Quite often what happens is that the model number gets corrupted during write and the RSS no longer recognizes the radio. If this is the case, you should be able to fix the model number and dump it back into the radio (reading it back into RSS using the F6 menu and writing with F4), and it should be okay.

Otherwise, you can try reading a good codeplug for this radio from disk (using the F6 menu for reading and not F3), and reprogram the radio with the good codeplug from this radio.

If not, supply the complete model number and flashcode and I can see if I have a coeplug file for you to try.

The fact that the model numbers are the same doesn't mean much, it's the flashcode that determines the "feature set" for these radios. Try posting both the model & flashcode to see if anyone has a compatible archive.

How do I get the flashcode? I know the ID number is: MO1SHM9PW5BN, MOD # M01HX+723W PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO GET THAT FLASHCODE, THANK YOU.

Most newer radios have them on a label underneath the radio, usually it's called "flash code", but I've also seen it called "manufacturer code". 13 digits long, sometimes printed with dashes after the 6th & 12th digits. If the label isn't there, you can get it through the test mode, but you probably can't access it because of the error. After the radio completes it's self check upon power up, press the middle button 5 times, if successful, the radio will scroll display it's model#, serial#, firmware version, and flashcode. The third way is to use the "flash upgrade" option in the RSS with a SmartRib, but again, your error will likely prevent that.
