Guys/Gals,
Picked up a couple of Astro Sabers and I'm looking for the best stock speaker/mic solution. The best I can tell, the NMN6217B was the unit marketed by Moto for the Astro Saber. However, there seem to be lots of ads on Ebay indicating the 6166C will work as well, but Moto marketing literature show it to be paired only with the standard Saber. I recently came across a post somewhere that seemed to indicate the 6166C might have some kind of antenna mounting tolerance issue when mounted to an Astro Saber but I've lost track of it... Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Fortunately, or unfortunately, all of the current (meaning later units in the round, not square style) Saber and Astro Saber speaker/mics have pluggable cords on them, so what you get can be a mishmosh of an Astro Saber unit (mic OR cable) and a Saber unit (cable or mic). They all should work pretty much the same except for one unit that's a noise cancelling head which I think is the 6217, and the difference there is not operationally to do with the radio but rather with the microphone unit's sensitivity. I have one at home but I'm away until late this week so can't double check the number for you right now. Your comment about the antenna needs clarification. Are you talking about the antenna connector on a PS unit (where the antenna is on the speaker/mic) or the thingies that are used on both types of radios to anchor the cable to the radio?

Re: Correct/best Moto speaker/mic for Astro Saber?
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. The deal is that the 6166/6128 seem to be available in much greater numbers on Ebay, where is 6128 is actually non-existant for the moment. As far as the antenna connector, I am talking about the fitting on the top of the radio that the antenna screws into. Having never seen one of these speaker mic connectors before, I was not sure if the connector on the cable clamped around the radio fitting or if it screwed into it, effectively raising the antenna height a little bit... Any checking you could do when you get back would really be very helpfull. Thanks!

I have some NMN6166C (not a P/S mic) with 2006 date codes, they were for the Astro Sabers.

I use a 6128 on my Systems and astro sabers. I just have to remember to change the antenna nut

Firecpt809,
Could you please be a little more specific about having to change the antenna nut?
Sounds like there are two different types of nuts between Saber and Astro Saber?
Do you still use the same antenna?
Thanks!

the analog saber/systems saber use a standard MX style solid antenna nut on the strain relief. The astro sabers use a male to female SMA antenna nut on the strain relief. The mics are interchanageable but the nuts arent.
