Our fire department has switched over to XTS 5000 portable radios with the Commander series remote speaker microphone. This microphone has channel selector and volume control knobs.
The issue we are having is that when the remote speaker mike is connected, you have to remember to increase the volume, or it will be minimal. Thus you may not hear someone calling you.
Is there a way, other than perhaps increasing the minimum volume of the radio via CPS, of dealing with this problem?

Re: Remote Speaker Microphone
First thing a person should do at the beginning of the shift when the HT gets turned on is to check the volume setting, so perhaps it comes down to a question of training. It's difficult to imagine anyone NOT double checking an equipment item on which your life may depend.
