Motorola Mitrek Consolettes still around?

Post by sgarwood »

I've been looking around for the older Mitrek based Consolettes - looking for a clock or two, some of the other options included. Doesn't appear that these are showing up anymore. Are any of the used dealers still handling any of these? Again, coming up empty other than a few showing on the online auction site.
I've been searching the archive and seen posts mentioning getting rid of these radios previously. I'm also wondering if there will be a last minute surge of these popping up with the drop dead date for narrow banding approaching....

Steve,

I think your observations are correct; there ARE fewer Mitrek consolettes appearing in the auctions these days, and the only reason I can think of is that there might have been far fewer consolettes made and sold years ago than there were Mitrek radios. I'd also like to find a clock, to start with, as well as the ideal, minty, almost new case, but no luck at all. I have one unit that I don't use that I'm holding on to, and I do keep two Mitreks set up on my bench but they're standalone units. The consolette is just too big to let it have bench space.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply - I've also found that some of the people that come to the hamfests aren't bringing what they have because they didn't think there was any interest. Some have just thrown them in the dumpster - a large MSS in my area did just that.

I did find these: http://shop.mechemelectronics.com/produ ... egoryId=13

Low band, don't know how may he has. He had some new chassis available - I bought two - don't see them listed on the site now. They included the front panel, all wiring and harnesses - no knobs or insert panels - but a clean chassis to work with.

The ones that I acquired recently were dirty but otherwise cleaned up nice. Seems like most of the top covers will need repainted.

Picked up a nice one on VHF, but it was heavily damaged in shipping - bummer.

Still looking!

Here is the link for the new/old stock consolette chassis that I picked up recently.... has the metal trim on the front - covered with a hard plastic protector.
