I know its not directly related to Motorola but some members here are intrested in the effects of the mandate on their radios and systems. This came out 6/30/10.

Re: FCC to extend narrowband mandate two years.
I am glad they did not move the deadline again. We have been narrowband at least 10 or 12 years since the first proposed deadline date. At the time all the other agencys screemed like the sky was falling, we had Minitor II pagers runing on a narrow band channel with no loss in range and only slightly reduced audio output.
We got 3 new high power frequencys (offsets) that previously were not avaiable above 470 MHZ, now if all the adjcent channel users would narrow band we could gain some RX sensitivty without their splatter.
Narrow band is not such a bad thing.
As an afterthought, it may be longer than 10 to 12 years since we narrowbanded as we are just now retiring some GM-300's that had the narrowband option from the factory. You had a choice of bandwidth at order time. How long has the GM-300 been out of production?

For a better understanding as well as the background about this subject it might be better if one were to read the formal report and order of June 30 from the FCC which is also available at www.fcc.gov. It's long and at times boring, but it goes into a lot of historical detail on the entire narrowbanding subject.
