Problem Receiving MDC on HT1250

Post by jchabalie »

I have programmed my UHF HT1250 to receive MDC ID's (ex. MDC ID 3661 to decode as "366 ENG. P-1") But for whatever reason, after the codeplug was downloaded to the radio, it is still showing up as just the numbers. It was working fine with all of the other MDC's before I reprogrammed it but now none of them will work right. Anyone have any ideas?

On a side note, my 2 other HT1250's and CDM1250 both work perfect with no problem and they were all programmed with the same software.

In each individual alias entry, did you make sure that the correct MDC System is selected? It has to be the same as the one assigned to the channel (You do also need to assign an RX MDC system to each personality).
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

If all you did was read, edit, and write to three portables, and one fails afterwards, then I'd copy one of the working portables into the non-working one to see what happens. You may have made a mistake, or a bit got bumped accidentally. Darn cosmic rays anyways.

I went back and looked at the codeplug and all of the MDC systems are set correctly and each personality is set to receive the correct MDC system. Also, I forgot to mention in my first post that the radio in question is UHF and the 2 other HT's and the CDM are VHF so I won't be able to write those plugs to this radio. i compared the MDC settings of the UHF and VHF codeplugs and they are all similar, except the VHF alias actually come up on the screen. All of the aliases have worked on this radio in the past, but recently when I added some new frequencies and put them into the radio is when I started having problems with the MDC. I'm lost right now as to what may be causing this. I have even tried unprogramming all of the MDC aliases and reprogramming them but still only the numbers will come up.

Do you happen to have an archive of the radio from before the MDC changes?

Unfortunately after the plug was written to the radio I replaced the existing file with the new one because I assumed that everything was ok. In this case I wish I would have been a pack rat.

Still unable to figure out what the problem is. Everything appears to be set correctly. I even attempted to program it with a known good codeplug but still to no avail. The only thing that I notice in the codeplug that is different from the good codeplug is that the "Message/Status" field is missing. Anyone know why this would have went away and if that would have any effect on receiving MDC aliases?

Huh. That's odd.

Just for laughs, if you can, try upgrading the firmware. If something is seriously messed up with the codeplug a FW bump might knock it back into line.

I'm willing to do anything to make it work. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about firmware or upgrading it.
