XTS3000 Advanced System Key

Post by carynet »

Dear SIr,

I had buy a new XTS3000 radio, I tried to program it, but the result was "Cannot write radio without Advanced System Key", so I want to ask where can I find the Advanced System Key?

Thank You.

I take it you are trying to program a Trunked Radio System into the radio? You shouldn't do that. The ASK is controlled by the people that own the system, unless you are an authorized user, you can not get the advanced system key...
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

If you are an authorized user of the system you are trying to program in, talk to your system admin about this. End of story.

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Sounds like the OP has a radio that was once upon a time hit with an ASK with write-protect enabled.

If the original owner write protected the entire radio then the OP will not be able to program any part of the radio, conventional or trunking. To the OP - you will need to figure out who the original owner is and see if they are missing a radio. If they are, they're going to want it back. If the radio was legitimately surplused, then they should have removed the write protection from it. Since they didn't you are going to have to pay their shop to remove it, or pay the depot to remove it. If you have to send it in to the depot, you are going to need something from them authorizing the depot to remove the ASK write protection.

Basically that great deal you got on the XTS-3000 wasn't...

Nah, as I recall it's a situation where "once programmed with an Advanced System Key, ALWAYS programmed with an ASK"...

hopefully he can read the tuning data and blow an S-Rec in there, that's probably the only way to fix it. Advanced system keys are the devil.

If you have an ASK for the system with the proper level of authorization, you can rewrite the codeplug and set the level of write protection.

Whether write protection is set or not is a function of how the ASK was programmed originally. You cannot change this setting just by using CPS.

I don't know (and have never tried) what would happen if you hit a radio with an ASK with write protection enabled, and then hit it with another one with write protection disabled if that would reset and/or remove the write protect bit or not. Some experimentation would seem to be in order.

If you have the ASK for the system, not just the CPS, you can remove the write protect. We do this on our radios before we surplus them so they will be of some use to the buyer. I forget the exact level of authorization on the ASK, but we have one specifically for this purpose that is kept in a locked drawer and has to be signed for.
