MTS2000 Screen

Alright guys,

My MTS2000 VHF had a connector issue with the mic so I opened it up cleaned the contacts, etc based off the info here and put it back together. Now the screen doesn't work. The radio reads/writes works fine. The mic still doesn't work.

Ideas?

Not sure why you would need to open up an MTS2000 for a mic conn issue
but you might want to elaborate on what info on the batlabs forums you
are referring to and describe exactly what you did inside the MTS2000.

I would guess you either unseated or didn't reseat the ribbon that attaches from the front face to the board.

I followed this set of directions, Flex Cable , to a T and made sure to dot my i's too.

I did the same thing to my UHF MTS2000 and it works fine.

IN MY OPINION, bad advice in the original article to pull the flex out of it's connector without lifting the lock tabs on the connector first. You can damage the flex at the right angle bend just before the connector or damage the connector or (most common) lift a connector pin off of it's pad where it is supposed to be soldered to the board. IF that is the case, you have no choice but to send the radio to an MSS for repair. They may or may not try to repair it depending on how well their shop is equipped. Otherwise, its a new controller! OUCH! Also, do not try to reseat the connector's locking tab by pushing down anywhere but on the ends; you will, more likely than not, break the locking piece.

Thankfully with previous flex cables I learned my lesson and was very careful with this radio. I lifted the locking tabs, etc.

Guess I'll have to get in touch with a local dealer and see if they'll touch it.

If you end up needing a new front, I have an extra board with good flex from an MT2000...basically brand new, used for less than a month.

Mine had a line or two out on it and I opened it looking for something loose. Of course, opening it killed it completely. There was a service bulletin on the Jedi radios that expired about a year ago that replaced fronts that had gone bad, so I had Motorola foot the bill for a new front. I needed the radio before they could get the parts, so I had to buy a front on here to get the radio functional until I could get it fixed; that's the extra I have.
