Flashcode option compatibility

Post by 007 »

I'm working with a board member to determine if a VHF XTS5000 that he has will be suitable for my needs. It is a host/DSP 12.00.00 radio with a flashcode that contains:

Q806 ASTRO IMBE Digital Operation
H14 Enhanced Digital ID Display
Q52 Federal Government FPP
Q498 Hardware Multikey Encryption w/ OTAR
H43 Trunked Remote Monitor/Radio Trace
H46 Trunked One Touch Status Message
H38 SMARTZONE Systems Operation
Q53 FCC FPP And Radio Cloning
Q173 SMARTZONE OMNILINK Multizone Operation
Q361 ASTRO 25 9600 Baud Trunking
Q446 Fireground Voice/Channel Announcement

I need the Q361 option for our new VHF P25 trunked system, which is why I'm looking at this particular radio, but it is also a Q52/Q53 radio. I thought that FPP and P25 trunking were mutually exclusive? If they can both be enabled and working in a VHF radio, that would be awesome for me.

Is there anything else I need to verify?

Sadly, that radio as flashed will never do trunking. There's nothing to stop the radio being flashed with both FPP and trunking, but as far as current operation goes, they're mutually exclusive, and FPP wins the battle between the two.

Unfortunately, that's what I thought.

That said, what does it take to modify an Astro25 flashcode? Is it still an s-rec rebuild or am I talking depot trip?

It's damn near impossible for me to find a non-FPP radio that has P25 trunking. My needs are exactly the opposite of 99% of the hammys and /\/\ nerds that want FPP.

I'm betting that since you have a non-standard flash that would never come from the factory, you will have a difficult time changing it legitimately.

Someone might be able to, but so far, those that can keep it VERY close to the breast, not wanting to share bankruptcy with others who have done this in the past and been sued.

Good luck on your quest.

Plus you can set them up on a trunking system if you have the system key and set them for RX only so they don't
affiliate. Make a great high priced scanner on a digital trunking system.
