Motorola AstroTAC T5589 Receiver

Hi Quantar geeks! I am Quantar dummy. I have a first and huge question about.

What needed to run Motorola T5589 just for receive? I no need remote control, fiber-optics interface & etc. I just need run it to listen via speaker as regular receiver like is Uniden. I just need to scan few conventional P25 channels.

It's possible?

If YES, what additionally I should have to run it (power supply, speaker & etc.).
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.

How to determine exact frequency range (132-154 MHz or 150-174 MHz) without reading receiver via software?
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.

Expensive scanner.

First read the radio to determine what it's feature set is. That will also tell you what it's range is. Some can scan. Some don't. There may be a spkr built into the front panel of the control brd, but occasionally there is one that doesn't have a spkr.

It will not be possible with just an Astrotac. You will need a DIU to decode the P25 and something to convert line level from the DIU to a speaker (amp)

As for knowing what band it is, read the part number on the receiver inside the chassis. Use batdude's part number decode thread.

Or read it with software.

You sure that 2 unit Astro-TAC receiver needs DIU to decode P25?

Okay. I see what you have. I'm guilty of not looking up the model number. You have a conventional receiver. It does not boogey P25. And you need the amplified spkr to listen to any traffic.

An astrotac is a quantar SCM with a quantar receiver and an AstroTac power supply with a wireline board built in. The SCM doesn't actually decode the P25. It decodes and sends analog signals down the wireline just fine, but P25 requires it to be decoded by a vocoder that doesn't exist in an astrotac. Hence, the need for a DIU.

As for the receiver part number, unless you know what freq it's on now? not really. Best to look at the part numbers anyways since you can program a "middle" frequency and still not know the split. (IE: Any freq between 150-154)

Thanks, guys. Not interesting if AstroTAC dosn't have P25 decoder.
