H1817 Conv. Kit: Convrt Mid Pwr XTL5K Remote to Dash Mnt

Post by ASTROMODAT »

I have an XTL5000 remote mount, mid-power radio with an 05 control head. I would like to convert it to an 05 dash mount.

I understand that I will need an H1817 conversion kit, which is $75.00. The problem is that H1817 is a Motorola sales number (as opposed to a Motorola Parts nbr), which means a full blown FO needs to be opened up, let alone up to 6 to 8 weeks ARO to get the darn thing.

Does anyone know what is actually included in the H1817 kit, so I can order the individual “piece parts" from Motorola Parts?

I have the 05 control head with its mid-power flex cable (HKN6191A Flex, CH to remote assbly – CHIB), and the face plate from the remote mount radio, with its flex cable (HKN6190B, 50 pin flex assbly). Do I wind up throwing both of these cables away, and then need to use yet a different (3rd) flex cable? I can’t imagine what’s in the H1817 kit! Silly me, as I thought I could just connect the control head to the radio!

Thanks for any help on this!

Can't imagine what's included there for $75 but to go from remote to dash all you need is the flex (HKN6192) and the spacer which is about $5.

With all the work you are doing here, you would be wise to invest in some basic service manuals, they have all the information you need.

The $75 price for the H1817 includes:

1) HKN6192A FLEX cable, 2) the accessory cable for connecting the radio's audio output to the desk top box's internal speaker, or to an optional external speaker, 3) the head bridge assbly, 4) 2 long screws with blue locktite to mount the 05 CH to the radio's chassis, 5) various other misc h/w, 5) a new red rubber seal between the front of the radio chassis and the rear of the head bridge assbly, 6) a new black rubber seal between the rear of the 05 CH and the front of the head bridge assbly, and 6) a bunch of other misc items, like a manual, etc.

Anyways, thanks for all of the help on this! I'm all set now to do the conversions!

Does anyone have the PN's for the pieces other than the bridge and flex cable mentioned above, i.e. the gaskets, screws, speaker cable and so forth?

Thnx, DLF

H1817 by parts:

1. HKN6192_ FLEX
2. PHLN6863 (standard one - just speker and ign. sense) or HKN6160 (w/ data cable) or HKN6163 (w/ programming cable)
3. 1585245E02 HEADBRIDGE
4. 0364332H02 MAIN SCREWS
5-1. ?
5-2. 3285471E01 SEAL, HEADBRIDGE
6-1. Any ideas about?
6-2. Garbage

Guys, any ideas about P/N of this one?
6) a new black rubber seal between the rear of the 05 CH and the front of the head bridge assbly
Maybe 3264062H02?
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.
