GP338 PLUS speaker issue

Post by SD70MAC »

I got a GP338 plus that has a speaker issue,do all the radio like have this poor of audio(EX600,EX500) ? The audio is also around 250mw +/- ,I have run the audio level up to about 225 via the tuner and its still low and distorted.I don't have a speaker mic to test to see if it the radio or the speaker. I did the updated the firmware from 5.08 to 5.14 and it did not help. Anyone know the P/N for the speaker ?
Anyone had any experience with this type of radio(EX600,EX600XLS,EX500) ? I have had and do have lots of experience with the HT version and the audio has been very good on them.

What radios do you own?: Motorola FR50!

We actually went through this exact issue last night, and upon taking the radio apart, we found that the speaker was missing the little plastic ring that sits between it and the piece cloth that is attached to the case to keep debris out, causing it not to resonate properly.

I would first check that you have Pre/De-Emphasis on your channels, and then pursue this issue with the speaker either by ordering and installing that ring, or placing something in there that will help the speaker to work properly.

The only thing holding the speaker is hot glue of all things !!! I would say there may be many things missing. Anyone have a exploded diagram I can look at in PDF ?
