How to change MLM board

Post by jenglish5 »

I have an MLM board (6.1xx) from a dead radio that I want to install in another good Spectra with an older (5.609) firmware. What is the procedure for this? Both are same A7 VHF model Spectras.
Motorola: 900Mhz GTX, Spectras, Gm300, Maxtrac, Desktrac, MT2000, MTS2000, EX600XLS, HT750.
Icom: IC756, IC706
Kenwood: F6A

Pop it in, perform the board replacement procedure in the rss service, and hope for the best. All the Spectras I maintain are the same model across several purchases / vintages with a few oddballs thrown in, and I generally have good luck. But, ymmv. You may want to consider moving the whole command board rather than just the mlm.

To add on to what Bill has said, I have taken the MLM board out of 800 Mhz radios and placed them in VHF
radios. Then do either a clone or complete programming of the new found home of the MLM board. You will
run into the normal "serial numbers don't match" and the software needs to be used to reset the MLM board
serial number and model to the radio it went into.
