Poor audio on XTS voting scan?

Post by mab »

Just for fun I set up an XTS-5000 to do a voting scan on the seven (analog FM) NOAA wx channels. It works fine -- the radio pretty reliably locks on whatever the strongest signal is.

The only problem is that the audio on the vote scan channels has a MUCH brighter, tinnier quality to it than it does when I receive the same stations on a regular (unvoted) channel. My first thought was that I had different settings on the voting channel personality for the emphasis, hearclear, etc, but I double checked in the CPS and all the settings are the same.

Anyone have an idea of what might be going on? Are the some other audio settings that I'm neglecting that only apply to vote-scan channels?

Thanks.
