XTS3000 Talkaround Unmute issue
Forgive me for being a N00B, but when I am on an analog talkaround freq. on my xts3000, I have disable the PL in order to hear any traffic. I have checked the PL, frequency, and tinkered with the settings to no avail. Can someone please let me know how to do this so I don't have to disable pl.
On a side note, I can receive the channel's traffic when scan is on also. The minute you take it off scan, the busy led flashes but the audio is still muted.
Thanks,

What unmute rules have you set for the personality?

Try setting it to "Standard" for every single one of your personalities.KD8GPM wrote: "Unmute, or Mute"

Not trying to ask a dumb question here, but do you have the correct PL code set in the RX mode?
If the output transmissions from the other radios are not encoding the PL tone, then if your radio is
set to decode a PL tone, you won't hear them. Sounds like you need to have a huddle and get
everyone on the same page.
You might try to find out what PL tone, "if any", the other radios are sending on the talk around channel.

The RX PL is the same as TX PL, this is not just a talk-around frequency, this problem also occurs when I'm trying to listen to a repeater.Jim202 wrote:

Note: The Title of this thread is in-correct. This problem is not limited to talk-around.
Unfortunately, I cannot edit the original post to correct it.

Re: XTS3000 Talkaround Unmute issue
Hams around here, for whatever reasons, seem to avoid RX subtones like it might kill them if they were to place it on a mobile or portable radio, and while repeater owners may require PL to get into the repeater, the number of repeaters that require an input subtone but don't transmit a subtone far outnumber the ones that have subtones in and out. All that being said, the problem you describe sounds more like a decoding setting in your radio, and it sounds like you may have MDC Signaling enabled. The RX Options setting for Unmuting and Muting is not the same as the particular signaling unmuting options. For RX Options, the Standard setting is the best place to start when setting that parameter, BTW.
Go to the Conventional Personality level and see what the Signaling Type, MDC Call Alert Decode, and Unmute Type settings are. To check 'em all in a glance, use the spreadsheet mode. If you see that the Signalling Type is set to anything other than None, you'll need to set the Unmute Type to Or. If it's set to And, the radio won't Unmute unless it's in scan mode.

curmudgeon.....and I like it.
Re: XTS3000 Talkaround Unmute issue
I do have MDC enabled and the signaling Un-mute option is set to And (Which is likely the problem according to you). Unfortunately I don't have access to a programming cable until later this week at which time I'll test it.wx4cbh wrote: Go to the Conventional Personality level and see what the Signaling Type, MDC Call Alert Decode, and Unmute Type settings are. Also the radio in question is not being used for Amateur Radio. None the less, Thanks for the Help.

Re: XTS3000 Talkaround Unmute issue
The audio muting is not available when scan is engaged because the receiving of the MDC burst would have to be uninterrupted to be decoded, and with the unit scanning or checking priority, it ain't likely that the coincidental timing would be reliable.
When not scanning, the call decoding functions are normal. With AND as the setting, unmuting requires both the MDC decode parameters AND the channel squelch parameters to be met. With the setting at Or, either parameter being met will allow the audio to unmute.
The on-board help files are abbreviated instructions designed to be interpreted by experienced operators, and they really aren't very clear about this matter unless you go directly to the help file concerning the AND/OR unmuting field under MDC. So unless you've got some time under your belt programming MotherMoto radios for MDC systems, don't feel like you shoulda known. you wouldn't be the first to have done this.
