MotoTrbo repeater courtesy BEEP

I've looked around in the programming and can't find anywhere to setup a courtesy BEEP on a MotoTrbo repeater. I'm talking about the BEEP heard when a user unkeys their radio that indicates to others that they now may talk. In noisy areas its hard to tell when the person has stopped transmitting due to no squelch tail etc.

Anyone know?

Also has anyone connected a phone interconnect to a TRBO repeater yet? Pinouts? problems?

are you talking about in digital mode or analog?

im not sure DTMF would work over digital to make a phone patch work, although im no expert on the subject.

As far as I know, the accessory connector on the repeater is still essentially 'dead' except for programming purposes. The roadmap calls for it to be 'turned on' in a subsequent firmware uplift...can't recall if it was first or second half of 2008. The DTMF keypad on the TRBO portables is slated to be enabled (analog only) at the same time. A TRBO phone interconnect product is supposed to be released...I'm assuming it will be compatible with the repeater in digital mode & allow one to choose which time slot to use it on...but haven't seen anything official yet.

This is a complete upgrade to digital, all the analogue will be gone from this system.

I was afraid the TRBO option connector was still "dead" at this time. Client has a simple "ring out then auto-answer" setup, no calls are made from the portables, its just used internally for people at desks to contact people rather than having additional radios at each desk.

Not sure why the courtesy BEEP is still missing from the repeater function. Will have to train the users to say "Over" I'm guessing.. or better yet do their own BEEP before unkeying!

Comercial repeaters typically do not use the "roger beeps". More of a ham radio thing.

Well when you are working in a noisy environment its a handy feature as it is hard to tell when the other person has unkeyed. Its even going to be worse on the TRBO as the background noise is much lower in digital.
We have it on all the repeaters we ever sold or maintained. If I forget to turn it ON on a loaner repeater, or a new repeater I'll be sure to get a call to go back before I get home to go back and enable it.

Even the lowly GR1225 has it.

I'm assuming he's running it in analog mode since running it in digital mode requires a daily firmware update....

Plus the extra expense to upgrade to ultra-high-speed internet to download the 32 different firmware files at 75 megs each.

New firmware just released

The following features are enabled with this MOTOTRBO Release:
• Subscriber Option Board Interface is now enabled
• Analog Repeater Interface via the accessory connector is now available
• Channel specific color coded channels can now be programmed
• The last sent or typed text message can now be recalled, edited and or resent
• A channel free audible tone can now be programmed both in analog or digital to signify that a transmission has ended on a channel being monitoring
• Basic privacy is now enabled in the subscribers
• Search Feature in CPS & Tuner

While the repeater does not appear to have a courtesy beep, the portables and mobiles can be setup with what's called a 'Channel Free Indication' for digital operation. Could not find a setting like this for analog. The 3rd pane help on that control from the CPS says in part:

Channel Free Indication
This feature sounds an alert tone when a voice call ends. Voice calls include Group Call, Private Call, All Call, and Emergency Call. A voice call ends when the user of the calling radio releases the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button, regardless of hang time. This feature alerts the receiving radio that the channel is available for them to respond producing a smoother flow of conversation. This is a radio-wide feature. This feature is supported in Digital mode only. This feature is introduced in Codeplug version 02.00.xx.

I have connected a Zetron 48max to a Mototrbo repeater and setup for use as a repeater panel with interconnect. Let me know if I can pass along any details. Oh yes, only works in analog mode. Due to the rpt config in digital mode, there is no real way to do this without something that has been engineered specifically to this repeater...Motorola is apparently still working on this. Could sure use it ASAP when it's ready.

While the topic is old it is still valid. I am trying to interface an LTR panel to a Mototrbo repeater running analog mode only. I have tried using the flat RX audio out, but it appears that it will pass PL but not DPL signals. All I get is spikes where the positive or negative signals should be.

Radios were factory manufactured August 2010. I am ordering the service manual, but is suspect they radio has a digital receiver, then decides which path to send the RX audio down, either digital or analog. I have given up for now, they are more than likely going to be relagated to the storage container for 25 years, like the Midlands and Tenelec radios I found new in there.
