Switching between Astro 9600 trunking sites on Motorola XTL

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

We have an Astro 9600 trunking OBT system (type ASTRO 25, Coverage = SmartZone) with few sites. WACN is the same for all sites. Due the some reasons I need to manually switch between sites. I tried SCANNING SITE function (RSSI key long press), but radio doesn't jump on stronger site even many retries and moving radio antenna. I tired SITE LOCK/UNLOCK function, but isn't noticed any differences. I tried to set up some sites as preferred (Always or Preferred), but no luck. In any case radio prefers first OBT ASTRO 25 Control Channel. After placing other frequency pair to first raw it begins using other site.

How to switch or vote between different sites?
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.

i remember a thread that may answer your problem. Do a search on Advanced System Keys. I remember something about scanning sites on Astro 25 coming up. Are you using correctly provisioned ASK on this system or a "soft key"?

We use soft 'legacy' key. It does matter?

Yes it does. See this topic.....

Scroll down and see Akardam's comments.

Also search for WACN roaming and see what you find.

Not if all the sites are in the same system ID, it shouldn't.

At minimum we would need to know if all the sites are in the same zone or not, and which sites are programmed to be adjacent to which other sites.

Sites uses the same WACN and same System ID. Differencies only in Site ID's.

This info can be obtained e.g. from Unitrunker?

This info should be available to the system administrator.
