Zetron 4014 Encoder and 4016 Console

I am gonna try and make this very simple. I bought a 4014 and 4016 console off ebay. All I want is the encoder and just want to hook it up to a speaker to make tones in my house. This encoder is currently hooked up to the console and I cant find how to make it stand alone and have "speaker" outputs that work. It seems as if it has toi go throught the console to do anything, but the console is reading discon in the screen. The encoder does work u just cant hear any tones. Thanks for any help..
