TIMS or BERT Testing

I searched all over the forums here and didn't see this discussed before. I am now taking care of an infrastructure that has a 18 voter sites and lots of wireline. I see that HP discontinued the TIMS sets and I don't really see anyone else currently marketing them. So, what's everyone using for wireline testing, conditioning, level set and troubleshooting? Thanks !

You can get used HP 4934's from under $1000 to $3000 doing some searching. They work well, they last a long time, and they are easy to drive. If you want new, Sunrise Telecom MTT series is a handheld that uses different modules to test every kind of media from copper VF ds0 to T1, ethernet, dsl, or fiber. Relatively intuitive interface, reliable, and give test results you can include in acceptance testing. JDSU makes great installer tools for proofing cables and long lines in a building. Saved my bacon a few times locating bad crossconnects.

Any newer fluke like a model 289 or 123 is a great tool for seeing line loss, frequency, and Db level of the sent signal. Now signal generation is another story. A helpers instrument lineman is a great tool (not made anymore) or an HP tims set (used all over ebay) work well. I would assume a loop or DSL tester may generate tone at a specified level for loos testing.

Try E-bay and search on the HP-4935A, it's similar and works well. If your also planning on simulcast, the convex 806 mentioned eariler by XMO does time delay too.
